Just Friends

Watched it on Saturday, December 3, 2005 @ the Famous Players theatre.

Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Amy Smart, Amy Farris

First off I have to admit that I'm positively bias to any movie starring Ryan Reyolds...he's just dreamy. Then, when he plays a character that was fat in high school & morphed into hotness in his adulthood, well that's just movie magic.
The movie's main story plot is that Chris (Reynolds) is in love with his best friend Jamie (Smart) in high school. After his heartfelt confession she tells him that she loves him too "as a brother". Ouch. So it's this pivotal moment that morphs Chris from a sweet, lovable sensitive guy to a cocky, arrogant womanizer. Then by some strange twist of events Chris ends up back in his home town after about 10 years and his focus switches to wooing the woman who broke his heart. Plenty of slapstick comedy and humor a la American Pie-esque ensues as sub characters emerge (the jerky, much younger brother, the female antagonist, the male antagonist) and wreck havoc on Chris's plan.
Overall I would love to rate this movie as a 9.5/10 but I'd hate to raise your hopes too much so I'll give it a 7.5/10.

Perfect Man

Watched it on Friday, November 19, 2005 at friend's house.
Starring: Heather Locklear, Hilary Duff, Chris Noth
Delightfully trite movie that lands somewhere between teen flick & romantic comedy. The storyline centers around Duff's relationship with her mother, her mother's tendancy to run away everytime she gets dumped, and Duff's need to call one place home. Duff crafts a secret admirer after Noth (otherwise known as Mr. Big to some of us) and along the way of tricking her mother into falling for the "perfect man" Duff finds one for herself in the loveable Ben Feldman. Locklear plays a desperate (in the love life department), sometimes selfish yet frightenly honest single mom who would rather be with Mr. Wrong then be alone. I found the movie cute, fun and light...a nice little change from all the war and alien movies that have been out lately.
In it's category I would give it 8/10 & overall a solid 7.5/10.

Four Brothers

Watched it on Friday, November 11, 2005 in Theatre.

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, Andre Benjamin, Garret Hedlund
The movie starts off by proving the saintliness of the Mercer brother's mom who is shot in a robbery within the first 10 minutes. When the boys reunite together for her funeral they start questioning the robbery behind her death and step by step try to solve the mystery of who would want to kill such a saintly person. The movie is sprinkled with comic relief, the portrayal of a lovable set of we-tease-you-cuz-we-love-you bad boy brothers, greatly choreographed gun fight scenes and yet still manages to leave you on the edge of your seat wondering "what's going to happen next" without the regular blah of most recent hollywood movies. I left the movie feeling like good had one another fight with evil and hey it didn't hurt that I got to see some nicely shaped bare male buttocks. For me, this was one of the few movies where the previews didn't give away the entire plot line.
I would give it 10/10.
